BACKGROUND & RATIONALE
The visual medium of films and documentaries plays an effective role in communicating and advocating important issues. They manage to engage the attention of a larger audience due to their easy proliferation. As the attention span of the youth has considerably reduced to their fast-paced interaction with social media; the need of finding engaging ways of communication is ever-growing. The production of such media helps in convincing and educating the community by explaining issues at hand in great detail while the information is easy to understand. Hence, Swechha has played a role in producing films and documentaries to garner attention to important issues affecting the world today.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Our documentaries, short films and video podcasts have a mass outreach and are used by various educational institutions and communities as a part of their curriculum. Jijivisha, Wasted, and Disposable are three award-winning documentaries produced by Swechha. They have broadcast across television networks such as CNN International, NDTV, BBC, CBC etc. In 2021, in collaboration with Carm – Daksh and Girls Count, supported by Ford Foundation, we made ‘Sakhi’, a film on the women of Bilaspur who have chosen the non-traditional livelihood of driving e-rickshaws, smashing notions of gender and patriarchy. Our podcast series on ‘Masterclasses on sustainability and resilience’ produced in collaboration with the US Embassy has had over a million views in the last year. We also have our own ‘Green the Map’ podcast series which brings stories of powerful enterprises practicing sustainability.
