URBAN AFFORESTATION PROJECT WITH CERE & INDUSIND
KEY PROGRAM FEATURES
Swechha has undertaken an Urban Afforestation Project in partnership with Centre for Environment Research and Education and IndusInd Bank, with a view to increase the green cover of New Delhi by growing indigenous fruiting and non-fruiting tree species in all available open space both private and public so as to improve the urban environment, augment local flora and fauna, sequester carbon and improve the micro- climate of Delhi/NCR.
FOCUS AREA - Protection and promotion of green spaces in the city, Urban Afforestation, community mobilisation for the environment, carbon sequestration, environmental responsibility
KEY ACTIVITIES - Community identification, large scale plantation drives, institutional collaborations, creation of urban mini forests
TARGET GROUP- Communities with potential green spaces, school and college students, RWA's, Govt. Agencies (DDA, MCD)
OUTREACH AND IMPACT - Swechha has planted, promoted and protected over 10,000 native trees across Delhi/NCR in the last three years, as part of this project, with a survival rate of 90%.
Each of these plantations have been carried out with the support of hundreds of citizens of Delhi, including youth from schools and colleges
