Dr. Shilpanjali Deshpande Sarma has worked for close to two decades on issues of
sustainable development and climate change, sustainable food systems, environmental risk
governance as well as science, technology and innovation policy. She is a passionate
advocate of education for sustainable development, regenerative agriculture and
sustainable diets.
She holds a doctoral degree in Environmental Biotechnology (focusing on soil microbiology
and pesticide degradation) and postgraduate degree in Environmental Science and
Technology for which she was awarded the gold medal. Post her doctoral degree, through
her work on sustainable development and food systems, she has experience in
transdisciplinary and systems thinking, policy research, development practice and outreach.
She has led multidisciplinary teams, excelled at stakeholder engagement and has published
widely which led her to be awarded the Roll of Honor for her performance.
Post 2018, her passion for environmental education and dialogue as well as for enabling
tangible and sustainable outcomes for communities, led her to work with start-ups focusing
on urban agriculture and natural/organic produce. Here she has been responsible for
research, content/activity curation as well as execution for workshops, product design,
business development, fundraising, customer engagement and partnerships.
Now at Swechha she is part of the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education as well as Farm
School programs. Her other pursuits include holistic wellness, food cultures, spiritual
philosophy, crime fiction and music
