Operation Raincoat
Operation Raincoat aimed at addressing the long standing destruction of environmentally sensitive sites due to heavy tourist influx, especially in the Himalayas. From April 2009 to March 2010, as part of the campaign, the Swechha team along with youth volunteers camped at Yamunotri, the source of river Yamuna at 10000 feet in the mountains. Their mission was to replace plastic raincoats being used by pilgrims and locals with raincoats made from environment friendly raw material. Community participation, establishing sustainable tourism practices, environmental awareness and conservation were the key focus areas of operation raincoat which was funded by Grassroots International.
