ECO WALKS

BACKGROUND & RATIONALE

Hands on and experiential learning is one of the key strategies of learning at Swechha. Keeping this in mind we have developed several journey and exposure based programs, for individuals, Schools as well as Corporates. Swechha’s Eco walks take citizens out of their comfort zones and bring them face-to-face with the ecological problems that our city faces. These half day excursions such as a Yamuna Walk or Forest Walk ensure that the citizens see themselves as an active part of our fast-changing social and environmental landscape.

FOREST WALKS

YAMUNA WALKS AND WATER WALKS

WASTE AND LANDFILL WALKS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

These are half-day guided exposure visits to some of the prominent ecological hotspots of Delhi NCR such as a Yamuna Walk, visit to a Landfill, tour of the Ridge, walk through the heritage water harvesting sites of Delhi, visit to a Biodiversity park etc. The learning walks are designed for young adolescents to witness first hand issues and concerns of the environment in their city. The focus is on sensitizing students with empirical evidence and sharing of lived experiences to motivate informed political, social and individual action, strategically designed and enabled to affect larger impact. In Swechha's experience the learning walks in combination with the structured curriculum and interactive workshops foster a deeply engaging environment for the participants to affect and build value-based positive change that they would like to witness in their social, political and ecological spaces. Locations for these walks could be places such as Sanjay Van, Okhla bird sanctuary, Asola Bhati wildlife sanctuary, Yamuna, various Baolis, landfills in Delhi-NCR.

SOME OF OUR

TESTIMONIALS

"I feel like its our responsibility to bring change to the state of Yamuna, especially as it is when it enters Delhi."

Kanav

Student

"I've never given it a thought what happens to the trash once it goes out of my house. Today's landfill walk shocked me to think that just outside the city, there are huge mountains of trash! And there are those who are forced to live near this toxic trash! I want to start practicing waste segregation right from my home and make others' around me aware of the conditions that waste pickers have to live in . "

Anamika

"My walk to Sanjay Van opened my eyes to the disconnect I see between myself and nature. It changed my relationship with my city.
